Singing bowls have been used in religious and shamanic practices for well over 1500 years and have been associated with Buddhism since the 8th century A.D. Singing bowls produce sounds which invoke a deep state of relaxation naturally assisting one in entering into meditation, the ultimate goal of enlightenment. In recent years singing bowls have been used in holistic healing, chakra healing, sound therapy, reiki, and fengshui.
A singing bowl is played by resting the bowl flat on the hand and rotating the stick around the outside rim of the bowl.
ROOT (Red) : The first chakra and it is located at the base of the spine. It provides the foundation in which we build our life. It supports us in growth and feeling of safety and survival. The root chakra is where we ground ourselves to the earth and anchor our energy into the world. It is represented by the colour red.
SACRAL (Orange) : The second chakra and it is located about three inches below the navel. It is associated with the realm of emotions. It is the center of our feelings and sensations. It’s particularly active i our sexuality and the expression of our sensual and sexual desires. Balancing the Sacral chakra allows you to “feel” the world around and in us. It is represented by the colour orange.
SOLAR PLEXUS (Yellow) : The third chakra and it is located at the upper part of the belly. Characterized by our expression of will, personal power, and mental abilities. The energy of the third chakra is mobilized when we assert ourselves in the world. Balancing the Solar Plexus Chakra will radiate your power in the world. It is represented by the colour yellow.
HEART (Green) : The fourth chakra and it is located at the center of the chest. It colours our life with compassion, love, and beauty. Driven by the principals of transformation and integration. It is said to bridge our earthy and spiritual aspirations. Balancing the Heart chakra will enrich your life. It is represented by the colour green.
THROAT (Light Blue) : The fifth chakra and it is located at the center of the neck at the level of the throat. It is the passage of the energy between the lower parts of the body and the head. The function of this chakra is driven by the principle of expression and communication. Balancing the throat chakra is important for our speech, creativity, and self- expression. It is most commonly represented with the colour light blue.
THIRD EYE ( Indigo) : The sixth chakra and it is located on the forehead, between the eyebrows, it is the center of our intuition and foresight. The function of the third eye chakra is driven by the principal of openness and imagination. Balancing the Third Eye Chakra expands our intuition, wisdom, and spiritual insight. It is represented with the colour indigo.
CROWN (Purple) : The seventh chakra and it is located at the top of the head. It gives us access to higher states of consciousness as we open up to what is beyond our personal preoccupations and visions. The function of the Crown Chakra is to get us in touch with the universe. It is represented with the colour purple.
