Like other green tea, matcha comes from the Camellia sinensis plant. Its growing process gives it a unique twist. Matcha’s leaves are covered for 20 to 30 days before harvest, which enhances chlorophyll production, boosts antioxidants, and gives the plant a darker green color. The leaves are ground into a fine powder — matcha literally means “finely powdered tea.”
